Business preparing for the Decade of Science and Technology

Десятилетие науки и технологий: бизнесу приготовиться

On 6 September, as part of the youth programme at the Eastern Economic Forum, a session titled “Business Preparing for the Decade of Science and Technology” will take place. This session will feature leaders of scientific organizations and the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The Decade of Science and Technology, declared by the President of the Russian Federation for 2022–2031, has become an integral part not only of state policy, reflected in various initiatives, but also an effective tool for the development of high-tech companies. From the outset, the active participation of major companies was envisioned, with Rosatom State Corporation taking the lead as a pioneer. However, the list of partners continues to grow.

In June 2024, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, agreements were signed with ODK, Uralchem, the Skolkovo Foundation, and the Roscosmos State Corporation. The results of scientific research and new technological products are expected to play an increasingly significant role in society and contribute to addressing critical national development challenges.

During the session, experts will discuss the tools provided to companies by the Decade of Science and Technology, the challenges companies face in participating, and the reasons they should join the thematic initiatives.

The session will be moderated by Andrey Voronin, Deputy Chairman of the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education under the President of the Russian Federation, and Acting Vice-Rector for Education at the University of Science and Technology MISIS.

“The Decade of Science and Technology manifests itself in various spheres of activity, and industry is no exception. In the third year of the Decade, business engagement continues to grow, and the session’s goal is to showcase the benefits and real practices of pioneering companies, as well as to discuss what active participation in the Decade's initiatives can bring,” he said.

The session will feature the following experts:

●         Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation

●         Boris Korobets, Rector of Far Eastern Federal University

●         Nikita Marchenkov, Chairman of the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in the Scientific and Educational Spheres under the President of the Russian Federation, Head of the Complex for Synchrotron and Neutron Investigations at the Kurchatov Institute

●         Anton Nizhnikov, Professor and Acting Head of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology at St. Petersburg State University, Vice President of the Vavilov Society of Geneticists and Breeders

“One of the national development goals of the Russian Federation, as defined by our President, is achieving technological leadership. National projects focused on technological sovereignty are being launched, priority areas for scientific and technological development have been approved, and a list of high-tech technologies has been established. At the same time, we are now in the third year of the Decade of Science and Technology, which primarily aims to engage researchers in addressing the priority challenges of the state, economy, and society. Therefore, the session of the Eastern Economic Forum, dedicated to the Decade of Science and Technology and the role of business within it, seeks to explore how the Decade’s initiatives can effectively involve not only young researchers but also representatives of the real economy sector in ensuring national technological sovereignty,” said Nikita Marchenkov.

The session is organized with the support of the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in the Scientific and Educational Spheres under the President of the Russian Federation.
