EEF 2024 to feature conference on Russian-Vietnamese relations

На ВЭФ-2024 состоится научная конференция о российско-вьетнамских отношениях

An international Russian-Vietnamese academic and training conference will be held on 3 September, the opening day of the Eastern Economic Forum 2024. The event is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of business relations between the two countries. The event is being organized by the Russian Historical Society, Far Eastern Federal University, the Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Federal Archival Agency and the History of the Fatherland Foundation.

“The history of Russian-Vietnamese relations dates back to the early 20th century, so it is natural that it was selected as the topic of the Russian Historical Society’s traditional academic conference at the Eastern Economic Forum. The memory of the shared path that our peoples have traversed now serves as a solid foundation for Russian-Vietnamese relations, which are developing in the spirit of a comprehensive strategic partnership. I hope that the academic conference will enable Russian and Vietnamese scholars to compare positions, establish new contacts, exchange expert opinions, and learn much-needed lessons from the past,” Chairman of the Russian Historical Society Sergey Naryshkin said.

Scholars from Russia, China, Vietnam, and South Korea have been invited to participate in the conference. They include: Chairman of the Management Board of the Russian Historical Society, Executive Director of the History of the Fatherland Foundation, and Doctor of Historical Sciences Ruslan Gagkuyev; Academician, Professor, President of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology, and Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Chau Van Minh; Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Academician Yury Kulchin; Rector of Far Eastern Federal University, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Professor Boris Korobets; President of the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, Doctor Yang Zheng Quan; and other specialists.

The plenary session programme will include reports by members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and representatives of the Vietnamese scientific community. As part of two thematic sections – ‘Cooperation in Science and Education’ and ‘History, Politics, and Security’ – they will discuss the history of Russian-Vietnamese relations, the support that the Soviet Union provided to the Vietnamese in their liberation struggle against the French colonial regime and the U.S. military, as well as the current stage of dialogue between the two countries.

Russian-Vietnamese cooperation will also be the main topic of an historical and documentary exhibition titled ‘Vietnam: The Path to Independence, Justice, and Prosperity’, which will open at the EEF. In addition, the conference will feature a presentation of a collection of documents prepared by the Federal Archival Agency titled ‘The USSR and Vietnam during the Second Indochina War. 1959–1975’.

The Eastern Economic Forum 2024 will take place on 3–6 September in Vladivostok on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University. The EEF is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
