Roscongress Foundation discusses business cooperation with Namibia

A delegation from the Namibian Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) visited the Roscongress Foundation in Moscow to discuss opportunities for the two organizations to work together and bring attractive projects to market in both countries.

“Africa continues to be the valuable partner it has always been for Russia. We are happy to observe its development and growing opportunities for investment. There is great opportunity in Namibia, and I am sure there will be no lack of Russian companies interested in cooperation. The Roscongress Foundation’s international brand, RC-International, is ready to help them find projects in Africa,” Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Roscongress Foundation Alexander Stuglev said.

“We believe cooperation with the Roscongress Foundation will prove essential to the successful development of relations between Namibia and Russia. There is great potential of various kinds in Namibia, and we have no doubt joint projects will benefit everyone involved. We presented just a handful today, and we are certain the Roscongress Foundation’s business platforms will show themselves the perfect place for discussing concrete steps and building effective cooperation with prospective partners,” NIPDB Head of Investor Experience Retention and Aftercare Jessica Hauuanga said.

The event was attended by representatives of the Namibian and Russian business communities, and the parties presented projects in education, tourism, digital business services, pharmaceuticals, and coastal development. Russian business interests were represented at the meeting by the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, Rosgeologia, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the Russian Ministry of Economic Development.

“It should be noted that there is great potential for our nations to work together in a number of important sectors, especially agriculture, tourism, and the extractive industries.  For example, there are Russian hotel operators raring to build and manage hotels abroad. It would be interesting for Russian companies in the energy sector to build and manage promising solar power plants and projects in Namibia, and well-established Russian mining companies could get involved in the extraction of, minerals, especially rare earth minerals like cobalt, in Namibia,” RC-Investment Director Alexander Shatirov said.

Participants discussed the impossibility of business cooperation in the modern world without modern information and communication tools like major business and industry events. Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation and Head of the International and Regional Cooperation Directorate Alexandra Ogneva spoke of the great interest Russian partners were showing in Namibia and how it could be further strengthened by discussions organized by the Roscongress Foundation in Russia and abroad. She also spoke about opportunities for Namibian companies to participate and present their investment projects at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Eastern Economic Forum, and the ‘Let’s Travel!’ International Tourism Forum and how doing so would strengthen partnerships between the two countries’ business communities. Joint educational and scientific initiatives could also be presented at the Congress of Young Scientists, an important annual event of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia announced by the President of the Russian Federation in 2022.

Important discussion also touched on joint initiatives in the lead up to the third Russia-Africa Summit, with the parties discussing the participation of the Namibian delegation in the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, slated to take place at the Sirius Federal Territory on 9–10 November 2024. Discussions are expected to cover the further development of bilateral relations and joint projects between Russia and Africa.
