Russia and Indonesia expand cooperation

A meeting was held in Moscow between Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, and Jose Antonio Morato Tavares, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Russia. The parties discussed the participation of the Indonesian delegation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held from 18 to 21 June, as well as in other convention and exhibition events organized by the Roscongress Foundation in Russia and abroad.

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov emphasized the strengthening of official and business contacts between Russia and Indonesia. “Indonesia is a reliable and time-tested partner for Russia. Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia traditionally take part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. St. Petersburg is visited by representatives of government authorities, trade and industrial unions and associations, and public organizations and associations, as well as the Indonesian business community representing the real estate and construction sectors, as well as the financial and insurance industries. Joint work at SPIEF will give impetus to the development of long-term mutual dialogue between Russia and Indonesia in a wide range of areas. Countries formally interact within the BRICS framework, this interaction should be expanded within the framework of Eurasian Economic Cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries,” noted Anton Kobyakov.

The meeting discussed the participation of Indonesian representatives in the SPIEF 2025 business programme and the preparation of the Russia–Indonesia business dialogue as part of the Forum. There was also a proposal to place a country stand at SPIEF, which could demonstrate to guests and participants of the Forum Indonesia’s investment opportunities, its projects in tourism and other sectors. The parties declared their readiness to develop cooperation between the countries in the political, trade, economic, tourism, and cultural spheres.

Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Russian Federation Jose Antonio Morato Tavares highlighted the importance of developing dialogue between Russia and Indonesia in the year of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries. “The Russian side attaches great importance to the establishment of high-level discussion platforms to further expand and deepen Russian-Indonesian cooperation. The Indonesian business community is interested in developing practical cooperation with Russia both bilaterally and within the framework of the Russia–ASEAN dialogue partnership,” said Jose Antonio Morato Tavares.

Special attention during the meeting was paid to the Russia–Indonesia Business Forum, which will be held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, on 14–15 April on the margins of the 13th meeting of the Russian-Indonesian Joint Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation. The Business Forum will be co-organized by the Roscongress Foundation under the Roscongress International brand and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). The Business Forum will be the starting point for cooperation between Russia and Indonesia in this format, which will continue at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June.

At the end of the meeting, Anton Kobyakov invited representatives of the delegation of the Republic of Indonesia to participate in other major convention, exhibition and business events to be held in Russia this year, including the Eastern Economic Forum on 3–6 September in Vladivostok, the Russian Energy Week International Forum on 13–15 October and Let’s Travel! Russian Tourism Forum 10–15 June in Moscow.
