Construction of a complex for the production of methanol from natural gas in the Nenets Autonomous District on the basis of the Kumzhinsky and Korovinsky gas condensate fields

The development of a new facility — a gas-chemical complex for deep processing of natural gas into methanol (with a capacity of 1.7 million tons / year) — is a large-scale construction project on the territory of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The raw material for the production of methanol will be natural gas from the Kumzhinsky and Korovinsky gas condensate fields. 

The composition of the projected gas chemical complex: 

1. Development and arrangement of the Kumzhinsky and Korovinsky gas condensate fields, production and preparation of natural gas at the first stage — up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year; 
2. The main gas pipeline for gas transportation to the gas processing plant with a length of more than 250 km, with a capacity of up to 4 billion cubic meters. 
3. A plant for processing natural gas into methanol at the first stage with a capacity of 5 thousand tons/day (1.7 million tons/year), at the second stage — an increase in capacity to 10 thousand tons/day (3.4 million tons/year); 
4. A shipping terminal in the projected seaport of Indiga (shipment of methanol for export).

Methanol (methyl alcohol, wood alcohol, carbinol, methyl hydrate, methyl hydroxide) — CH₃OH-the simplest monatomic alcohol, a colorless toxic liquid. Natural gas is mainly used as a raw material for the production of methanol. Use of methanol in the chemical industry (production): 

• formaldehyde, 
• acetic acid, 
• methyl methacrylate, 
• demethyl ether, 
• gasoline, 
• fuel, 
• solvents, 
• bunker fuel, etc.
