Urban Hub platform events will be held on September 3–6 on
the sidelines of the 2024 Eastern Economic Forum. The events have been organized
by the Roscongress Foundation, with the support of the Ministry of
Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation. Among those
invited to take part in the plenary session, business events, and panel
discussions are Mayor of Vladivostok Konstantin Shestakov, Head of the Sakha
Republic (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolaev, Governor of Sakhalin Oblast Valery Limarenko, Governor of
Kamchatka Krai Vladimir Solodov, chief executive officer of DOM.RF Vitaly
Mutko, Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far
East and the Arctic Elvira Nurgalieva, and Deputy Minister of Construction,
Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation Nikita Stasishin.
The work of the Urban Hub platform will be united by the
theme “City by the Water” and most of the discussions will be dedicated to the
development of cities in the Russian Far East and Arctic located on sea and
river routes. Cities historically developed around rivers, lakes, and seas, and
transport, logistics, and industrial facilities flourished in coastal areas.
Now cities with water resources have another feature that can serve citizens
and bring in tourists, namely, embankments. Developed areas near water ensure
the high quality of the urban environment and become important spaces for the
development of the urban economy.
Participants in the round table
discussions ‘City by the Water – Best Practices in Urban Planning’ and ‘Water
as a Source of Life and Concession Mechanisms. What is the Connection?’ will
discuss the functional balance and issues connected to the comprehensive
transformation of embankments to meet the needs of citizens and businesses
today, and consider effective mechanisms for public and private investment in
coastal areas. The experts will also talk about the work to integrate
embankments into the environmental framework of the city in order to protect it
from the dangerous effects of water elements as a result of climate
change.
The participants in the round tables
will also discuss the impact of water infrastructure on the development of the
urban environment, economy, inter-regional ties, and human capital, as well as
aspects of environmental sustainability looking at the best urban practices in
cities located near large bodies of water. One of the strategic goals pursued
by the state is the creation in the near future of a comfortable Arctic with
the participation of all concerned parties through the development of the urban
environment and economy.
Representatives of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation and the professional community will discuss aspects of the construction industry in light of the new challenges posed by the large-scale development of the Russian Far East and Arctic at various round tables. One of the key topics will be a discussion of the stages of implementation of the recently announced Infrastructure for Life national project and its impact on the region’s demographics. Among the topics that will be discussed as part of the Urban Hub block on construction are the mechanisms that will be used for advanced construction, the revival of small towns, the main points of attraction for the urban development and creative industries while preserving historical and cultural heritage, and the development of the tourism potential of the region, and many more.
“Today, almost 115 million square metres of space are under construction as part of the law on shared-equity construction – that’s more than 2.35 million apartments. The groundwork is being laid for the development of housing construction moving forward, ensuring the growth and economic development of cities and the creation of new jobs. Particular attention in the development of the Infrastructure for Life national project is paid to the mechanisms by which all the necessary infrastructure will be created to make life for people in the region more comfortable,” noted Deputy Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation Nikita Stasishin.
