The
Roscongress Foundation is serving as a partner for the first time for the
opening of the 8th Moscow International Biennale of Contemporary
Art, one of the main cultural projects created and held with the support of the
Russian Ministry of Culture. The curators of the project are theatre director
Dmitry Chernyakov and architect Sergei Choban. Halla bint Khalid (Saudi
Arabia), Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa (Bahrain), Mohammed Khoja (Saudi
Arabia), Leila (Azerbaijan), and other famous contemporary artists have brought
their works to the Moscow Biennale.
“The Moscow
International Biennale of Contemporary Art is a landmark event for all
connoisseurs of culture. The artists’ works touch upon the pressing issues of
our time and make us think about the future of mankind, the values that guide
people today, and the role of the individual in the world. The event was
sponsored by the socially-oriented non-financial development institution
Roscongress Foundation. The Foundation regularly supports major events in our
country’s capital cities, including within the framework of the cultural
programmes of its own international events,” Adviser to the Russian President
Anton Kobyakov said.
One of the
world’s leading museums, Albertina (Vienna, Austria), served as a partner of
the Biennale. The masterpieces of 11 artists of the 20th century
will be brought from the museum’s collection. In total, the main project of the
Moscow Biennale presents the works of 34 artists from 11 countries: Austria,
Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Germany, Italy, China, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the
United States, Russia, and France.
“The Moscow
Biennale has become one of the key internationally recognized cultural events
over the years it’s been held. Artists and connoisseurs of contemporary art
from around the world take part in the event”, Russian Minister of Culture
Vladimir Medinsky said.
The theme
of the main project at the Biennale is ‘Focusing on Landscapes’. The project
will be on display at the main exhibition space of the State Tretyakov Gallery
located at 10 Krymsky Val. The exhibition takes up a total area of 2,500 square
meters.
